Rotary club of Dhaka Luminous held its 4th board meeting on 17th January 2023 in IBA Alumni Club Located at Purbachal, Dhaka. Meeting was held during 7.00 PM to 8.00 PM. Club President Rtn. Mohammad Abdullah was selected meeting chairman and conducted the 4th board meeting for Rotary Year 2022-23. In addition, Club Secretary Rtn. Al Amin Redwanur Rahman PHF, CP Rtn. Kazi Saiful Hoque PHF B MD, Rtn. James Jacob Ribero, PP Rtn. Hadi Mizan Al Hossain, PP Rtn. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, PP Rtn. Mohammad Shahidul Hoque and Rtn. Bhashkar Ranjan Saha attended the meeting.  Other members of the board were absent and granted leave of absence.

First Agenda of the meeting was to approve and finalize inclusion of Mr. Rajib Ahmed as member of the club. Chairman of the meeting introduced Mr. Rajib to the board members present. He also informed the board members that Mr. Rajib was invited by Club President himself to attend general meetings of the club. After attending several meeting, Mr. Rajib has shown his interest to join the club. Club President and chairman of the meeting has proposed to include Mr. Rajib as new member of the club. All the board members present unanimously approved inclusion of Mr. Rajib Ahmed as member of the club effective from upcoming general meeting to be held on 29 January 2023.

On next agenda, club president informed that as per last board meeting two members were removed from Members Portfolio as well as database in Rotary website. After inclusion of new board members, members portfolio will be updated. Furthermore, board need to review whether any other members inactive and need to be removed. Status of all the members were then reviewed and it was decided that no other members are need to be removed. However, few inactive club members will be communicated to increase their participation.

Motion was then carried to third agenda of the meeting. In this agenda, chairman of the meeting has informed the club members that Rotary Club of Dhaka Phoenix is currently planning to merge with their club with other rotary club. Number of active members of the RCD Phoenix has decreased significantly. Current active members of RCD Phoenix are familiar to most of the members of Luminous. Accordingly members of RCD Phoenix has shown interest to merge their club with RCD Luminous. In this regard, President of RCD Phoenix was connected over phone to confirm their interest and a meeting were scheduled to discuss the prospective terms of the merger and review of member portfolio of RCD Phoenix. In this regard, board have authorized CP Rtn. Kazi Saiful Hoque PHF B MD to join the discussion meeting with RCD Phoenix on behalf of the board and members of RCD Luminous.

Board was than moved to forth agenda to discuss on the prospective and new project proposals. Club President has informed the board that the club has not participated in significant projects yet and plans to undertake and participate in several projects during the remaining rotary year. In the meeting, a peace fellowship was discussed and it was decided to that club will arrange for a join club meeting or a seminar on peace by February 2023. It was agreed that Service Project Director Rtn. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman and CP Rtn. Kazi Saiful Hoque PHF B MD  will take the lead to arrange the meeting/seminar on peace fellowship.

Board has decided to undertake a project on Disease prevention. In this regard club already had a discussion with Rtn. Dr. Niaz Abdur Rahman PHF B MD from Rotary Club of Dhaka during its 187th General meeting. Service Project Director Rtn. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman has informed the board that a MOU will be discussed with Dr. Niaz on Eye Camp by this week. Board has authorized Service Project Director to sign the MOU on behalf of the club.

In connection with a service project on Basic Education & Literacy, IPP Rtn. Mohammad Shahidul Hoque have has mentioned that club has earlier sponsored annual education related expense of a child in SOS Shishupolli (Child Home). Club may sponsor annual education related expense of another child of SOS Shishupolli. It was decided that club will decide by this week on whether to donate/sponsor child from SOS Shishupolli. If decision is taken to donate/sponsor a child, IPP Rtn. Mohammad Shahidul Hoque will connect SOS Shishupolli in this regard.

Chairman of the club have informed that in the past, club have taken up a project to plant palm trees in Alfadanga, Faridpur. As support environment project, chairman has proposed to review the condition of the planted palm tress and take necessary step for maintenance of already planted trees. PP Rtn. Hadi Mizan Al Hossain has been authorized to connect the local social work teams who helped to plant the trees and inquire about the condition of trees. He has been requested to report to the board for requirement of any maintenance of the planted trees.

Club President has informed the board that club has donated a school van to a autistic school in the past. The school has requested to donate a wheel chair for the children with need for special care. As a maternal & child health project, it was proposed and later agreed by all the board members present that a wheel chair will be donation to the autistic school to support special care for the children. In this regard Club President Rtn. M Abdullah and Vice President Rtn. Golam  Sarwar Farrouqi has been authorized to communicate with the school and lead the wheel chair donation program.

Chairman of the meeting informed the board that club is interest to undertake a project on economic and community development project. In this regard various project was discussed and board have shown interest in a child education sponsorship program recommended by IPP Rtn. Mohammad Shahidul Hoque. Board has authorized IPP Rtn. Mohammad Shahidul Hoque and PP Rtn. Hadi Mizan Al Hossain to check the prospect and social impact of the prospective project. Board have also shown ints interest in a project to sponsor training expenses of a female driver. Club President informed the board that BRAC has been providing driving training to females to increase their employment opportunity. Club president was then authorized to communicate with BRAC for the prospect of the project.

In a project related discussion, IPP Rtn. Mohammad Shahidul Hoque proposed to set up a Old Home. In this regard Service Project Director and Past President Rtn. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman specified to set up a old home for those parents who are living alone as their children are living aboard. Service Project Director informed the board that there are many family in our society where parents are living alone and there are no one to take care of them. There are similar case even in the upper class of the society. RCD Luminous can set up a old home for these parents and take care of them. Board has decided to check feasibility of the project and shown interest to take it as a signature project of the club. In this regard a 3 member committee was formed with IPP Rtn. Mohammad Shahidul Hoque, CP Rtn. Kazi Saiful Hoque PHF B MD and PP Rtn. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman to prepare a business model including a sustainability study. Board has requested the committee to report on next board meeting.

After discussion on the prospective service projects, motion was carried to the next agenda. In this agenda, board has reviewed the update of ongoing project. After much discussion, board has approved a donation to Dhaka Rotary Club for Blanket distribution project & Sleeping Kit Project.

There being no other agenda, meeting was adjourned with notice of next board meeting to be held on 12th February 2023.
