Every year, October 24th is observed as World Polio Day worldwide. After a year, that day has come again. Today, on Tuesday, in addition to many other countries around the world, Bangladesh is also observing this day. The theme for this year’s World Polio Day is ‘Vaccination is Safe and Saves Lives.’
In the capital city, the Rotary Club of Dhaka Luminous is celebrating World Polio Day. In this regard, a rally was organized in the Hatirjheel area of the capital under the initiative of Rotary District 3281 in the early morning. District Governor Ashrafuzzaman Nannu led the rally, with the participation of presidents of 84 clubs in Dhaka, past district governors, and other district governors.
Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Dhaka Luminous participated in the rally, including club president Rotarian Manjurul Karim, past president Rotarian Mushfiqur Rahman PHF, and Rotarian Shahidul Islam MPHF.
At this time, District Governor Ashrafuzzaman Nannu thanked the participants and expressed the hope for the complete eradication of polio very soon.
In this context, Rotary International is leading the way in polio eradication by providing leadership to eliminate polio from the world through the vaccination of approximately 2.5 billion children in nearly 122 countries. Currently, Afghanistan, which is in conflict, is close to eradicating polio except for two to three inaccessible areas, with Rotary being 99.9% successful.
