The Rotary Club of Dhaka Luminus and Daily Dhaka Times have launched a program to sow palm seeds and plant saplings in Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur to address the adverse effects of climate change. Following this, planting of one thousand palm saplings has been started on both sides of Sealdi Road and Buri canal in the upazila.

The program was inaugurated on Sunday (September 26) at 11 am.

The inaugural function was attended by Upazila Awami League President SM Akram Hossain, District Krishak League President and District Council Member Sheikh Shahidul Islam Shahid, Rotary Club of Dhaka Luminas President Hadi Mizan Al Hossain, former President Shahidul Haque, Buraich UP Chairman Md. Jahangir Hossain, Upazila Swechchhasebak League President Enayet Hossain, Alfadanga Government College lecturer Mahidul Islam, Gopalpur Union Awami League President. Local dignitaries including Monaim Khan, journalist Ershad Sagar, director of Sayem Memorial Foundation, Mehedi Hasan, vice-president of the District Volunteer League.

Incidentally, palm trees play a major role in maintaining the balance of the environment, preventing lightning, preventing river erosion and tackling adverse climate change. Palm trees are becoming less and less extinct today due to storm damage and climate change and indiscriminate deforestation. At one time there were rows of palm trees in different places including the two sides of the road in the remote area of ​​Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur. Now it is no longer visible.
